The cab that started it all
Back in 2013 I traveled to the Bead & Button show to take some classes and (of course) shop. While I was there I visited the booth of Gary Wilson, who is a self-described ‘rockhound’ and lapidary artist. I purchased this cabochon, without really having a clear idea what I was going to do with it. I was just smitten.
Over the years I would pull it out from time to time. Still loved it, but didn’t know what to do with it. I tried beading around it a few years ago, but it just didn’t do the piece justice.
And that is what led me to metalsmithing. I’ve tried to set this stone a few times, but always struggled because of the size, and, well, because I wanted it to be perfect.
This weekend I finally finished it. Honestly, I don’t love it … I think it could be better. BUT, I am thrilled that after all these years I finally get to wear it!
